Planning and Assessment Cycle
We follow the statutory framework of the Early Years Foundation Stage which covers children from birth to five years.This has 7 areas of Learning and Development.
The Prime Areas are the most essential for your child's development and future learning. Confidence in these Prime Areas will help them develop skills and knowledge in the 4 Specific Areas. For children under 3 years old experiences will be focussed on the Prime Areas and they will be assessed in these areas. As children enter their Nursery School year they will be assessed in all 7 areas. When children move onto Primary School they will continue to follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework in their reception year

- Children in the Early Years Foundation Stage learn by playing and exploring and being active. This approach supports, promotes and develops positive attitudes towards learning. Children learn through carefully planned first hand activities both indoors and outdoors which are based on their development and interests. Each room has a planning board which is added to on a regular basis to show interests and learning.
- Practitioners plan together on a weekly basis. They keep detailed observations of children’s progress through notes, photographs and observations. This information enables practitioners to celebrate and reflect on children’s achievements and assess their learning. All children are ‘celebrated’ and you will be encouraged to contribute to ‘Celebration Boards’, sharing information about your child’s learning and interests.
- Details of your child’s progress and achievements will be shared with you and their primary school. There will be opportunities to meet with your child’s key worker during the year in addition to informal discussions.
